The Educational Testing Services is the biggest non-profit educational organization. It was founded in 1947 and is nowadays responsible for the general exams in the United States, as well as the statistical and psychological research of the American educational system.

Among the tests offered by the ETS organization, some, like the SAT or CLEP, are very famous among students in the US. For students to continue with or succeed in their studies, it is necessary for them to take such examinations. For example, the GRE is necessary for the admission into most graduate study programs. And last but not least, the TOEFL and the TOEIC have both been created in order to offer different ways to assess the level of English of non-native speakers.
